Description	The Physicians' Health Study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial among healthy US male physicians. The original randomized trial, the Physicians' Health Study I, was to test the benefits and risks of aspirin and beta carotene in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer ; it started in 1982 and ended in 1995. A second randomized trial, the Physicians' Health Study II, was to test the balance of benefits and risks of three other widely used, but as yet unproven, supplements for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, age-related eye disease, and cognitive decline--vitamin E, vitamin C, and a multivitamin ; it started in 1997 and ended in 2011.
