Name | WHI-OS (Women's Health Initiative Observational Study) |
Acronym | WHI-OS |
Description | The Women's Health Initiative (WHI) is a large and complex clinical investigation of strategies for the prevention and control of some of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality among postmenopausal women, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporotic fractures. The WHI-OS is a prospective cohort consisting of 93 676 women who were enrolled at 40 US clinical centers between 1993 and 1998. Baseline eligibility requirements included postmenopausal status, age between 50 and 79 years at enrollment and low likelihood of loss to follow-up within 3 years due to relocation or death resulting from a pre-existing medical condition. |
